“Mamma, I have a tick on me!” With those few words, and the sight of the tiny parasite clearly embedded in my daughter’s leg, my first instinct was to completely freeze. But living in New England, we have experience with ticks. Luckily, I knew what to do in this situation… Switching out of panic mode I sprung into action.
Knowing how to handle tick bites is vital to safely enjoying the outdoors in an increasingly large portion of the country. I’ve recorded a short video explaining what to do if you find a tick attached to yourself, or a family member. I encourage you to watch it now, so you won’t need to figure out what to do in the stress of the moment.
If you have any concerns about Lyme disease, or other tick born infections, please schedule an appointment with me or another doctor as soon as possible. The earlier you start treatment the better.
